Brisbane’s Chandler Sports Precinct will receive a $257 million makeover ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, enhancing the world-class athlete facility as Queensland’s most diverse multi-sports hub.
Also known as the Sleeman Sports Complex, the centre was built for the 1982 Commonwealth Games, and has since gone on to host hundreds of state, national and international events, including the World Masters Games, the Goodwill Games and multiple World Cup events.
Earmarked as a key venue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the precinct will soon be home to a new indoor sports centre with two halls – one accommodating 10 multi-sport courts and the other a 2,400sqm gymnastics facility – to host a range of sports including basketball, volleyball, netball, badminton, gymnastics and emerging sports like pickleball.
With works starting in 2026, the Brisbane Aquatic Centre will undergo refurbishment to enhance its legacy value with improved facilities for high-performance swimming, water polo, artistic swimming and diving, as well as community use.
Upgrades to the overall precinct grounds will improve connectivity and accessibility between the Chandler Indoor Sports Centre, the Aquatic Centre, Australia's only Olympic Standard BMX Supercross Track, the Anna Meares Cycling Velodrome, and the Geoff Henke Olympic Winter Training Centre.
With works on the new Indoor Sports Centre and Precinct set to get underway in 2025 and expected to be completed in 2027, the Chandler Sports Precinct will be enjoyed by the community and national sporting teams for years before and after the Games.
